Part I : Sem Break

Let's have a flashback on what I did during my 2 weeks sem break.

1. Celebrated 2-in-1 birthday (god dad's and niece's)
2. Went shopping and watched movie in Midvalley + Trip to Eye on Malaysia
3. Girlfriends outing to Pyramid and Subang Parade

1. Celebrated 2-in-1 Birthday

Just one day after my return from Kampar, 23 Sept., it was my god dad's and niece's birthday. My bro, sis, Eunice and I shared my niece's present. Well, it's not that I'm insincere but I can't help it! I don't have enough time to actually shop for my niece's present. As for my god dad, Ah Wei and I made a special drink for him and for the mini party and I shared (again) with my bro, sis and Eunice (again!) to buy a cake for him. Guat Shan, Ah Wei and Sito attended the little party as well.. and well, one memorable event that happened on that day was I had my face clad with red cream, thanks to both my bros and my sis. They tag-teamed on me! Unfair!

Children, never play with cream especially when you have evil siblings!

2. Went shopping and watched movie in Midvalley + Trip to Eye on Malaysia
The following day, I spent 12 hours out from home. In Midvalley and Titiwangsa, to be more precise. After 3 months of no-shopping-complex-in-Kampar, I release every thing in a go in Midvalley. I'm not the type that enjoys shopping but just imagine not seeing shopping complexes for 3 months! And I'm sure you'll have something you want that isn't available in normal mini marts. Anyway, the 6 hours in Midvalley was spent shopping, eating in Kim Gary (oh, how much I miss that 'yin yong'! Yummm~) and watching movie, Knocked Up. After that, we headed to Titiwangsa, Eye on Malaysia. This trip to Eye on Malaysia was like a must! in my to-do list since the ferris wheel will be sold to Singapore end of this year and there won't be any chance to ride it then. Of course, except you visit Singapore which the ticket will be 100% more expensive.

Poser behind trying to steal the spotlight.

3. Girlfriends outing to Pyramid
After like 3 days of staying obediently at home, I went Pyramid with my ex-schoolmates. This was planned even before the sem break started. A summary on we did was bowling, went arcade, lunched in Kim Gary, watched 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry' (great movie! I recommend it. Love the message), shopped, second round shopping in Subang Parade and lastly, mamak-ed in Klang Chicken Mamak a.k.a Esso Mamak. When Guat Shan, Ah Wei, Poh Yee and me bowled, we kind of like self shocked there by snapping tonnes of photos! Then Ranjita joined us for lunch and movie and finally, we met Rebecca in mamak. We had a good laughter since we were kind of 'high' that day. It was great fun meeting with friends! Love them!

Photo taken by Poh Yee. Thanks!

Coming Events:
* Boyfriends meet-up- tasting food prepared by Chef Russell
* Hair treatment (cut, blow and wash) in A Cut Above

* Pangkor Island vacation with house and uni mates

Happy Mid-Autumn a.k.a Mooncake Festival!

First of all, Happy Mooncake Festival!!

My house mates and I had actually celebrated
this festival one week before its actual date, which is like on the 17th September. We thought playing lanterns and candles together would be fun and since mooncake festival falls on our sem break, we decided to celebrate it earlier. Here's the chronology of our mooncake festival celebration:

Guat Shan holding both mine and her lanterns with our 'heaven gate' in the background.

It all started a week or two before the we (me, Guat Shan, Ah Wei and Leon. Sito did not join the fun because she was asleep after 2 days and nights of staying up) celebrated this festival. Guat Shan, being a good planner that she was, planned to celebrate it after our Computer Studies paper (that's right, it's on our exam week!). The following week, we bought 8 packets of candles and a packet of 5 lanterns from the pasar malam. On the following Monday, after dinner, we started our simple celebration by lighting candles on our house gate and our lanterns. We then felt it's boring to just 'play' with lantern in our own house car porch. So, we walked to the lake.

Just in case some drivers didn't notice the 'Berhenti' sign.

On our way to the lake, we came across a 'Berhenti' sign and since we have extra candles for the lanterns, Leon took one and lit it on the signboard but he removed it after that. There were car drivers looking at us as we walk and there were also motorcyclist shouting 'Main tanglung!' on our way to the lake. As we walked pass West Lake Homes, which is the 'hostel' for students, we met some of our lecture and tutorial mates, which followed us to the lake as well.

Kenji lighting the little boat.

At the lake, Leon started making boats from candle boxes. They were simple boats, just a candle box and a candle on it but as simple as it sounded, the process of putting them to work wasn't easy. The first boat Leon made was a failure since the boat went upside down and sunk. The second and third boat was successful but when he threw them into the lake, the fire went off. So, our daredevil Kenji used a long stick we used to hold our lanterns, stick a candle on one end and tried to lit the candles on the boats. It was truly a dangerous stunt! His whole body practically went through the spaces in between the pillars and was so close to falling into the lake. Even Leon had to pull his other free hand to prevent him from falling off the arch. But their effort wasn't wasted. The boats looked like fireflies on the dark surface of the lake. It was beautiful! We waited for the candle to burn itself so that when it touches the box, it would burn the box as well so that the box wouldn't be floating on the water and looked as if we purposely pollute it. To our horror, the fire went off as soon as it touches the box and the boxes remained floating on the water! However, we quickly dismiss that, acted as if the boxes were burnt and proceed with our next activity.

The process of making a floating lantern.

After that, we attempted to make a floating lantern (called 'tong ming ten' in Mandrin, if I'm not wrong). We used Leon's lantern since it was the biggest. We have 2 Physics students there to tell us how the lantern actually work by using the hot aired balloon concept and we have an ex-'reka cipta' student to construct the lantern. How we did it was a long process and do not have to be explained here and it failed after all. Anyway, while waiting patiently for the lantern to float, Ah Wei and I fought (playfully, that is) using the sticks we use
d to hold our lanterns as swords. Guat Shan recorded silly stuff like 'Kampar dog' (as if dogs in Kampar has 5 legs and 2 tails!), commentated the sword fighting, how Kenji pose and how Leon tried to seal the holes on the lanterns that prevent it from levitating. In the end, the lantern did not float but was burnt in stead.

Candles on a string.

Not long after that, Sito came and fetch all the 4 of us to mamak. Well, as usual, we hung out there for about an hour and went back home. This time, it was Sito's turn to play with candles since she missed them earlier that day. Leon and I accompanied her but we did not went to the lake and just played with candles in our car porch in stead. Sito lit the candles on the gate, I lit candles on a string (and actually burnt it) and Leon made some explosive jet engine from paper and gas. We continued playing for like an hour and called it a day after that. It was, no doubt, a fun day. We also made a conclusion that people who celebrated the pre-mooncake festival were all Science stream students and we'll be sitting for our Economics paper 2 days after that day. Cool, huh?

Man. Utd. 2-0 Chelsea

First Half

2 minutes into the match and Rooney made an attempt to score (too bad it was nicely tapped away by Cech) I knew this match was going to be a good one. 32 minutes into the first half, when Mikel was awarded a red card (my bro and I was practically clapping our hands!), I knew the match was better than expected. 30 seconds before the first half ended, I confirmed the match was the best when Tevez headed an impressive goal, leading Man. Utd. 1-0 against Chelsea. Tevez!! It's about time!

I even received 2 sms-es from my friends saying:

Khai Chiah: "Tevez..!"
Alan Tung: "Tevez.. Finally.."

Mikel, you're out!

Second Half

The second half was started just like any other second halves. Well, there were nice passes and tacklings but I felt tha
t Joe Cole should be sent off for tackling Ronaldo from the back. It was so obvious that it was a fault and that he was trying to injure Ronaldo BUT he did not even receive a yellow card! However, there were two interesting parts in this second half. One is how Wes Brown turned white. It was hillarious! Wes Brown is a brown man and when I say he turned white, it doesn't mean he turned into a white man like Rooney. It simply mean there was something on him that made him white and for this case, it was the white chalk used to draw lines on the field. The second thing is, Man. Utd.'s second goal! It was a penalty taken by Saha, which happened to be his second goal of the season and indirectly earning him the label Man. Utd.'s top scorer. Yes, with only 2 goals but no worries! More to come!

This was also the first match managed by Chelsea's new manager, Avram Grant. I won't say it's a good start for him but what do expect from him (or Chelsea) when you're facing Man. Utd. anyway? XD Owh.. the evil me!

A line from my bro, "Mourinho must be sitting at home, laughing his heart out watching this match while wearing Man. Utd.'s jersey." How I wish I could see this scene.

"HAHA! Serve you right Chelsea!"

Chapter 1 : The Begining

Today, 22nd September 2007, is the official launching of my personal blog!

So, it's the last day of my final exam and the begin
ning of my first sem break. Allow me to start off with a little something on my study week and exam week. A brief intro on my study week; it started 2 weeks ago from 3rd to 9th September and my exam week was from 11th to 22th September. From the name itself, it's very clear that study week it's a period of a week given to students to study or go through what was taught in university BUT what my friends and I did on study week? Well, we didn't exactly follow the concept of study week.

Witnessed the beautiful sunrise at the lake.

Th
e first crazy thing we, as in Leon and I, did was fishing. Not just any ordinary fishing. We stayed up the whole night and went fishing 5.30 in the morning! It started when we, as usual, were studying till 3 a.m but on that particular day, I was still as awake as ever eventhough it was already 5 a.m, thanks to some coffee. So, as we were studying, Leon being the fishing master suggested that we should go fishing. Ok.. lets go then. The initial plan was 6.30 a.m but drowsiness started to take over and we went to the lake 5.30 a.m. And so, we fished for 3 hours and I caught 5 fishes! And it was only my second time fishing! By that hour, my eyes were already half-lidded. Went back home and lied flat on my back and woke up at 12 p.m.

Some other crazy activities we did were fishing every evening and sleeping at minimum 1.30 a.m. Through out the whole study and exam week, my room turned into the sleeping room and Guat Shan and Ah Wei's room turned into the study room. Usually, my house mates and I will have our lunch in the university but since the cafeteria wasn't open, we made our lunch as simple as possible but yet, as yummy~

Delicious salad and mash potato kept simple.

Now, enough on study week. Let's move on to the exam week. We sat for a total of 6 papers, Biology or Physics (Biology for me), English, Chemistry, Computer Studies, Economics, and Mathematics. During the examination week, we did not go out as often but we still do go for fishing anyway. Fishing was introduced to us by Master Leon. He started fishing not long after uni starts and we'll just watch him fish or enjoy the scenery there but about a month back, all of us (me, Guat Shan, Ah Wei and Sito) took up the so-called fishing course from out master. Until now, Master Leon caught 14 fishes, followed by me, 12 fishes, Sito caught 6, if I'm not wrong and both Guat Shan and Ah Wei caught 2.

The fish we caught. Kept it in a pail and released it after fishing.

But of course, being some good students that we were, we studied as well. And we all know studying isn't the best thing to do when you're free and it can be stressful at times.

That's me!

Having a stressful-yet-relaxing time studying.

Sito comfortably studying with her cozy blankie.

In short, although there were lots of playing and crazy activities, I think we managed to balance the time between studying and playing and that I'm glad that we spent our study week with minimum stress. But who knows what our results would be?
